A while back, we were visited by Mark and Eva from Amsterdam. It was a special trip for them, as Mark asked Eva to marry him. We were very happy to help Mark with his preparations, as we prepared a special picnic basket with delicious local food and wine for them (he hid the ring inside the bread). Luckily, Eva said yes. We couldn't be more excited for our guests. Even more so, when we received an email a month later where Mark and Eva announced they wanted to organize their destination wedding here at Outpost. “Is this possible?”, they asked. Of course it was, and together with them, we organized one of the most remarkable destination weddings we hosted in a long time. After the wedding, we interviewed the newlyweds and asked them about their wedding experience. How do they reflect back on their wedding day here at Outpost in Azenhas do Mar?
Destination wedding Portugal: “Why did you decide to get married at Outpost?”
“Initially, Mark had surprised me with a surfing trip to Portugal, where we stayed in the loft house at Outpost. Little did I know that Mark had planned to ask me to marry him. It was a very special trip for us, in many ways, since we had some stressful years behind us. Of course I said yes, after which we enjoyed the most amazing time together. Outpost made this experience extra special. We both love the sea, the Atlantic ocean in particular. There is a one of a kind atmosphere in this little town, and here at Outpost where we are surrounded by nature and serenity. The cliff, the colors and the architecture of Casa das Arribas really create a magical ambiance for us. When we asked ourselves where we wanted our destination wedding, our first idea was Outpost. As we wanted to share ‘our special place’ with our family and friends. This is a place where we truly feel at home, so it was perfect for our destination wedding.”
Destination wedding Portugal: “what kind of wedding did you have?”
“Our destination wedding was exactly as we wanted it: small, intimate and casual. We didn’t want any extravagance. Luckily Outpost already has its natural charm, and we wanted to keep it that way. Not any flower bouquets or expensive decorations, we wanted a natural, Atlantic environment. Luckily the people at Outpost helped us to organize everything, and they offered to help us create the right wedding setting. The only thing we had was a beautiful white tent in the garden, with an open view on the Atlantic ocean. The tent was surrounded by fire torches, which Mark and I both love. Other than that we had a few tables set up for our friends and family, enough for a small group of 30 people. A local chef prepared a beautiful 10 course dinner on the day of our wedding, and we found a bakery that prepared the wedding cake. All of these arrangements were recommended and organized by Outpost, so we hardly experienced any stress during our wedding preparations”
Destination wedding Portugal: “How did you experience your wedding?”
“Usually you hear the most horrific stories about people experiencing a lot of stress about their destination wedding. Things going wrong at the last minute, people not arriving on time, or simply just feeling stressed about the big day. For some reason we experienced the most peaceful day, there was nothing stressful about it. I think this is because of two reasons: 1. we kept things very simple 2. we had a lot of support from Outpost. This put us in the most relaxed mood ever, making us able to fully enjoy our wedding day. I didn’t make a lot of fuss about my dress or appearance, as I wore a simple white dress and casually put my hair up. Because we went surfing with friends the week before, Mark and I looked very tanned on the wedding day. I think there was a natural glow on all of us, as we all felt so happy and relaxed. The ceremony was beautiful, emotional and memorable. One of our friends played guitar and sang our favorite song “have I told you lately that I Love you” by Van Morrison. Afterwards we ate, drank and danced. It was the most simple, perfect day celebrating our love alongside the Atlantic ocean.”
