When we started looking in the whole of Portugal for the right furniture for OUTPOST, we found this one picture of a wooden table – it seemed the perfect starting point for what we had in mind. We found out the maker was this young talented carpenter living and working just five minutes away from us in the next village Fontanelas.
Glen Samuel Friedman is a self-taught carpenter with a passion for improving our living space and the environment of the planet. He uses low-impact methods of production and simple, locally sourced raw materials which bring their own beauty to his pieces. As a long-time lover of Portugal, Glen moved here several years ago from New York where he worked with reclaimed wood and interior designers.
We teamed up with Glen and designed a line of wood furniture for OUTPOST. The results combine simplicity and purity in form with rough and rustic materials. Each apartment is equipped with a tailor-made dining table to fit the individual dimensions of the space. For larger groups or events, they can be joined together and form a long dining table. The tailor-made nightstands, benches and side tables are designed to match the tables in style and material.
As a carpenter, Glen is committed to source wood in a sustainable way and help revive the indigenous forest that once provided Portugal with an invaluable resource. He has partnered with the Awakened Forest Project to reforest parts of central Portugal destroyed by fire.
The OUTPOST furniture line is also available for purchase if you want to take a piece of OUTPOST back home with you. Shipping cost within Europe are surprisingly reasonable, around EUR 200 for a medium sized table. Get in touch with us if you are interested.
